Man’s Best Friends

A photo of a Brazilian dog siting by his owner’s muddy grave, near Rio de Janeiro, has been circulating around the Internet and touching the hearts of millions. His name is Leao and simply refuses to leave the graveside of his owner Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who died during the terrible landslides that devastated Brazil, (January, 2011). The photos below were taken during the second consecutive day in which Leao sat by his owner’s final resting place, and showing the entire world that loyalty goes way beyond the grave.
Not much need for further commentary. Inspiring and heartbreaking, the photo captures the unfailing devotion, authenticity, and maybe most of all, vulnerability of humankind’s best friend.

Another Tear-Jerking Story

Dallas/Fort Worth news station WFAA reported a story out of Texas, about man’s best friend’s undying loyalty to his master.

After lawnmower shop owner Wayne Giroux was tragically killed in June 2010, by a drunk driver, Giroux’s son noticed even 5 months after his dad’s death, his dog Spot still waits on a quaint country road for the old man to come home.
“I have no doubt that’s what she’s waiting for,” Paul said. “It breaks my heart every time I go over there.” Read more about the story HERE..

Video of The Day~Loyal Dog in Sendai Refused to Leave Injured Friend

One loyal dog refusing to leave his hurt friend’s side. There is so much we don’t understand about the emotional lives of animals. But we know they can suffer tremendously, and we know they care for each other. We wish all the people and animals of Japan heartfelt concern during this incomprehensibly difficult time. We know that the people of Japan will respond like these two friends, never abandoning each other in this time of need. Ganbatte kudasai! (“Don’t give up!”).. Continue reading

Dont Be Fooled By Your Dog’s Begging Eyes

coco begging eyes

Nothing can be more heart-wrenching than a dog begging while looking at you with those big sad eyes while you are eating. It almost seems as if their eyes are talking to you, and you know what they’d say if they could talk: “Please, just an itty-bitty piece of corn, or chicken, or roast beef. Even a crumb, I’ll take a crumb.” You can see it in their eyes, it almost seems as if they have tears. My advice~ Dont give in, because dog begging is one of the more difficult habits to break.Besides dealing with dog begging at your side while you’re eating, it is also extremely unhealthy for your dog

Your dog does not actually have to be pawing at you or jumping up to the table to be considered “dog begging.” Sitting there looking pitiful is just as bad. If you give in to your dog even once, you have just gotten the ball rolling towards a lifetime of begging. Then when you try to get him to stop, his modes of dog begging will intensify to whimpering, barking, growling, pawing and anything else he could possibly do to get your attention.

Fourth of July~The Scariest Night of The Year for Dogs

For humans, Independence Day generally means fun… or at least a barbeque and time off from work. But thanks to fireworks, the Fourth of July can be the scariest night of the year for dogs. The sudden, deafening sounds (what’s loud to us is ear-piercing to them) and bursts of light in the sky can elicit serious anxiety, if not downright terror.
So to avoid sending your pets trembling with fear, hiding in remote parts of the house, or even running away, check out these tips for keeping them feeling safe and secure:
~~Keep your dog inside, and if possible, don’t leave himalone in the house.
~~Drown out the noise of the fireworks as much as possible. Close your windows and turn on the radio or television.
~~Make sure he has access to his crate or “safe place” during the show, and casually toss him a treat once in a while.

~~Act normal! Talk to your dog in an upbeat voice and go about your usual activities. ~~Coddling or babying isn’t advised: your dog takes his cues from you, so if he senses that you’re confident and unafraid, he’ll be more likely to respond in a similar manner.
Not surprisingly, many fireworks-phobic dogs also exhibit fearful behaviors during other times of the year as well.Lightening and thunderstorms, for example, can be particularly scary. If you think your pup is experiencing regular anxiety, get help. A reputable trainer or behaviorist can help you both work through these issues.

Dog’s "It’s Mine" Property Law

I was visiting my friend Brahm’s blog ~ ” Alfred Lives Here“, and saw this blog post about dog’s  top ten  property laws , and loved it.. So I wanted to share this little humor about dogs, Enjoy:

1- If I like it, it’s mine.
2- If it’s in my mouth, it’s mine.
3- If I can take it from you, it’s mine.
4- If I had it a little while ago, it’s mine.
5- If it’s mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6- If I’m chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.
7- If it just looks like mine, it’s mine.
8- If I saw it first, it’s mine.
9- If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10- If it’s broken, it’s yours…

WoofWednesday ~ Pooches,Puppy Love,Lap Dogs Are Gal’s Best Accessories!

You can love your shoes and monogrammed handbags unconditionally for all you want but all that plastic and leather will never reciprocate the same sentiment. Of late, however, this ‘It’ accessory has us wondering if lap dogs are a gal’s best friend.
Puppy love can be therapeutic. Heartbroken, lonely, grief-stricken or just having a bad day; snuggle up to your pooch and, lo and behold, sunshiny days are back again. Why else do you think the likes of Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Aniston are such avid dog-lovers? Betrayal is never an issue with dogs; wish we could say the same about men and bffs.
From the wide-eyed pugs to adorable yorkies; it’s practically impossible stay the aloof to their charm. These little pooches, in all their shiny coats and silky hair glory, can make even the toughest of us pamper and cosset them silly. Grooming is the key when it comes to toy dogs. With the wide array of designer threads available: Burberry sweaters, Chanel collars and Juicy Couture …everything, pup fashion has turned into serious business. And, honestly, a well dressed pooch only makes the owner look twice as fashion savvy.
Celebrities, Paris Hilton to be specific, started the fad of being spotted everywhere with travel-size mutts and the trend caught on like wildfire with everyone from Mischa Barton to Sienna Miller catching onto it. Carrie Underwood has gone and declared her dog the ring bearer for her wedding! And these celeb-pooches sure know how to make headlines: Paris Hilton’s Tinkerbell drama and Jessica Simpson’s Daisy trauma to name a few.
However, if a lap-dog is to be your potential best friends (diamonds beware, you have competition) make sure you pick the right one that agrees with your personality. Here are the 10-best breeds to choose from

~Lhasa Apsos and Shih TzusLhasa Apso/Shih Tzu is a loyal dog, who while not be a traditional lapdog, is a steadfast sweet, happy, active, assertive, adventurous little companion dog whose only desire is to be with and protect their owners.

Rachel(Me) and Coco-Lhasa Apso
Nicole Ritchie with her Blonde Shih Tzu

~Pomeranian: Perky, spunky and sturdy, they are known to have a dynamic personality.

~YorkieYorkshire Terriers seem oblivious of their small size. They are very eager for adventure. This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and clever. While they are active and bold, they do show signs of stubborness if not trained well.

      Vannesa Williams and Enzo

~Chihuahua: Perhaps Hollywood’s most beloved breed, they are fiercely loyal and sweet-nature.
                                                           Britney Spear and Bit Bit

~Maltese: These little play creatures with their long, silky white coat are docile and peaceful unless its playtime.
                                                                                                    Jessica and Daisy

~Bichon Frise: Tiny fur-balls known for their cheerful attitude and sensitivity.

                                                                                              Christina Aguilera and Lucy

~Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: Lively, affectionate and extrovert; they like the indoors as much as the outdoors.

~Papillon: Highly energetic and intelligent, they are your perfect jogging partner.

~Pug: Although they draw mixed reactions on their apperance they are extremely lovable and even-tempered.

Jessica Alba with her two babies Sid and Nancy

~Toy Poodle: Pleasant and haughty, they demand constant attention and hate being ignored.
                                                    Joss Stone and Dusty

Always keep in mind, though, that with a great pooch comes great responsibility. The grooming, the pampering, the maintenance…these aren’t easy tasks. Good luck and enjoy those precious moments with your pooches!

MusicMonday ~ Earth Song By Michael Jackson

This song makes me sad everytime I hear it.. We have to stop destroying our earth, save plants and animals and love one another.

“Earth Song”
What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain…
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine…
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we’ve shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
What have we done to the world
Look what we’ve done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son…
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine…
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don’t know where we are
Although I know we’ve drifted far
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah
Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can’t even breathe
(What about us)
What about apathy
(What about us)
I need you
(What about us)
What about nature’s worth
(ooo, ooo)
It’s our planet’s womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We’ve turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We’re ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by creed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can’t we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can’t you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about babies
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn
Aaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaah

Dogs Are Miracles With Paws

Introducing our puppy Coco for today’s theme ~Woof Wednesday.
I thought since this is my first woof Wednesday topic, I should first talk about my puppy Coco, a lhasa apso male dog, purebred ~20months old who still acts like a 2month old puppy.Whoever said you can’t buy happiness forgot little puppies.

We didnt know what type of a dog to get when we were looking for a puppy. We knew we wanted a small dog, but which kind/breed? So we started researching about small breeds, and came across this breed, Lhasa Apso~a non-sporting dog breed originating in Tibet. It was bred as an interior sentinel in the Buddhist monasteries, who alerted the monks to any intruders who entered. Lhasa is the capital city of Tibet and apso is a word in the Tibetan language meaning “bearded,” so Lhasa Apso simply means “long-haired Tibetan dog.

Lhasa Apso is a loyal dog, who while not be a traditional lapdog, is a steadfast sweet, happy, active, assertive, adventurous little companion dog whose only desire is to be with and protect their owners. After researching, we knew this is the right kind for us!One night after searching the internet for hours and hours, I saw this cute little lhasa apso puppy just staring at me saying “Get me,get me,get me”. That minute I saw his cute face, I told my husband , I think this is the one. We called the number, and YES, he was available.

The next day my husband and I drove for two hours to go get him, and we became new dog owners~ he was ours to keep? I couldn’t believe it, I was beyond happy,I was ecstatic~ we named him CoCo (short for coconut for his white and brown markings,a lot of fur and that he was sweet as a coconut).Coco is full of personality,a wonderful dog, fun, loving and a great watchdog. He is our JOY.

Dogs Like To Stick Their Heads Out The Window, But Dont Like When You Blow On Their Faces.

I have always asked myself what is it with dogs, everytime they are in the car they stick their heads out the window with the wind blowing up to 40mph,but dont like when we blow on their faces? My puppy CoCo gets so excited when he finds out that he is going for a car ride. The minute he enters the car,he stick his head right out of the window.I have now come to understand, why they do it and love it so much. I now know that they love when their ears flap in the wind, they get over thousands of scent just by sticking their head out of the window, they enjoy the scents they pick up and love smelling new things.
Similarly, they may dislike being blown on because it is only one smell, that being our stinky breath, possibly mixed with something we just ate that we didn’t share. Also, they dont like the pressure of the air just concentrating on one area, when they stick our their head, the wind hits different area of their faces but they are too excited to care. According to the experts it “bothers the dog’s whiskers, which often causes an involuntary nervous reaction to avoid the stimulation—like how we scratch an itch”..
Fresh air is the way to go.Think about it…they like to feel the breeze, the same way we do when we are in a convertables. It’s always more fun with the top down.

To Achieve The Incredible, You Have To Attempt The Impossible.

Just Finished watching “Fly Away Home”.Today was my first time watching this movie, and I must admit ,this movie exceeded my expectations! I was so impressed by this little girl,a 14 years old kid who lead a family of orphaned geese who lost their way.
Her name-Amy, who lost her mother to a car accident in New Zealand. She then moves to Canada to live with her father, but finds her new life miserable, until she finds abandoned goose eggs from when the developers tore up the forest behind her home.
They soon hatch and Amy becomes their “mother” and takes care of them. Winter quickly arrives, and the geese must go south. But who will show them the way? It is up to Amy and her father to make sure that the young geese find their way, and with the assistance of her father’s invention, they do just that, they helped her to get the geese to migrate to a preserve. At the end of the movie, you see the geese returned back and are spotted on Amy’s porch the following Winter!
The movie is based on a remarkable true story that happened only there really wasn’t a character named Amy or Thomas or Susan or Uncle David or Barry. But their based on real people.
